Lovely clean room and friendly staff. No WiFi in the room which was unbelievably in this day and age. Breakfast was okay but welcome as it was included.

Check in was a mess - we arrived early and were given our room keys. Tripping across the buckling carpet; we then 10 bags upstairs (no lift), only to see that the cleaning staff were not finished with the three rooms we reserved. Lugged all the luggage back downstairs and out to the car so they would be secured until we checked in later. When we returned we were told the restaurant chef was on holiday so the restaurant/bar was closed. Which wasn’t a big deal but would have been nice since other places were a distance away. So we needed a shower only to find the bathroom vanity light was burnt out, and the shower drain was plugged up. We reported this later but the second day after we retuned back late to the hotel; it still wasn’t cleared. Beds were very firm and pillows were flat and hard. TV wouldn’t turn on with remote but you could change channels and volume, no way of adjusting heat in the room. Radiator control valve just spins. They did offer breakfast but it wasn’t great. Scrambled eggs tasted heated from frozen and fried eggs were overcooked. They did offer cereal, coffee and toast but no fruit or gluten free options. Staff were friendly but not proactive. Hard to track down as nobody was at the desk the entire time we were there. We would have rather stayed at another hotel.

Good simple breakfast. Clean room but the Hotel location is not good but easy to get the bus into Edinburgh
