This is a beautiful, historic, stone building on the edge of the town centre with its own parking. Ideal for dining out or meeting friends. To the rear is the old abbey gardens and a recreational park. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated with some lovely items and features. However, we did not sleep very well. The whole hotel and our room in particular was very, very warm. Our room was registering 30 degrees when we went to bed. The outside temperature had dropped to 12 degrees but the windows were prevented from opening beyond about 4 inches which was not enough to cool the room down. I tried turning the room thermostat down but it made no difference. All a bit of a shame really as otherwise it was very pleasant stay.

Hotel is nice in a great area, there was no parking available when I checked in so had to park closely in public car park.
The room when I got in was 26c with only two windows to open that view straight into the public park at ground level so couldn’t leave them open whilst I went out for the evening meal. When I returned the room had risen to 28c so was extremely uncomfortable, outside temp was only 17c but no way of getting the room temp down without leaving windows open, this would have been unsafe as it’s a public park outside the windows so didn’t risk it, room steadily climbed to around 28.5c before I finally got some sleep, wasn’t much beet in the morning at 26.8c when I woke at 5:30am
All in all hotel nice, room nicely decorated but far to hot with no way of bringing the temperature down so wouldn’t recommend staying in room 1 during summer or evening spring and autumn

Well I wouldn’t describe it as boutique or luxurious but it was ok. Towels and bedding had washed in red staining, some sharp edges on the fan in the room and window had two settings closed and garage door wide open. When a room is marketed as cosy I should have understood that meant small. The check in process with no staff at the hotel is ridiculous but I guess some people like the lack of interaction. The rules regarding check in and check out are a bit prohibitive at 4pm and 10am. The place feels basic and for me, didn’t feel like value for money. Bed was comfortable but in this weather a single sheet would have helped over a duvet. Also had issues overnight with revving cars in street so didn’t sleep well.
