Our experience at Grange Portland Hotel was extremely disappointing. After arriving from an international flight, we carried four large suitcases and our carry-on luggage to the room we were assigned on the third (top) floor, facing the sun. Within about 15 minutes, it became clear that the room was unbearably hot due to the lack of air conditioning, the exceptionally high temperatures in London, and the room's direct sun exposure. We immediately spoke with the manager, hoping for a solution. Instead, we were simply told that we should have checked the hotel description because the hotel has no air conditioning. No fan, no alternative room, and no practical assistance were offered. Since we could not stay under those conditions, we booked another hotel while still in the room, carried all of our luggage back downstairs ourselves, paid for another taxi, and relocated across London. Although we spent only about 15 minutes in the room, we were still charged for the entire night's stay. We understand that not every hotel has air conditioning. However, assigning guests a top-floor, sun-facing room during extreme heat without offering any solution when they immediately report the problem is unacceptable. We cannot recommend this hotel during the summer.

We were very disappointed with our hotel room and general stay here. From the Hotel.com pictures, we expected this hotel to be on the nicer side. When we arrived the lobby had tattered couches that should have been replaced years ago. It was so hot in the hotel that it was almost unbearable. We were given one very small fan for three of us to try and stay cool. We requested another fan on several occasions and were never given one-we were told they didn't have any more. Elevator was very slow and the door took forever to open and shut. It was in a relatively convenient part of London. Staff weren't super accommodating. Room was outdated. Wifi was very spotty. Definitely a disappointment.
