Other things to note The Kensington Soup House was first erected in 1870 as a relocation of the Kensington Soup Kitchen, originally instituted in 1844. The building served the community right up to 2007 as Phildaelphia's last neighborhood soup kitchen. Since its inception, the Soup House served destitute families with hot meals, living spaces, and even work opportunities. From the early 1900's to 1960, it even served free coal to those in need from the surrounding neighborhood. The Soup House was purchased and renovated by Katia McGuirk to now function as a beautiful, unique home to many.
